Catching Up - A Short Film

About 'Catching Up'
Catching Up is a ten minute short tthat was shot on 16mm film in Pulaski, Virginia. It is based on Mary’s experiences growing up there, as well as stories she was told about her father’s job as a guard at the county jail.. The jail has since closed, though the building still serves as the offices for the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department. These early memories of meeting inmates, eating with her dad at work, and seeing prison life first hand all helped shape the person that Mary would become. This script has become very personal to her. The project received the Panavision New Filmmaker Grant, and the American University Filmmaking Grant.
Additionally the script has become her most recognized work. It was a finalist for the DC Shorts Screenwriting Competition in 2010, and it won the Will Interactive Dramatic Short Screenplay competition. It was also nominated for the Visions Award for Best Short Screenplay, and was selected as part of the DC Film Alliance live reading in April of 2010.
The film received the Visions Award for Outstanding Thesis Project in 2011.
